TNA Impact! is a 2008 game based on the wrestling federation of the same name, Total Nonstop Action. This game includes some of well known wrestlers like the Dudley Boyz, Sting, Kevin Nash, Kurt Angle, Booker T and athletes rose by the TNA as well, like Samoa Joe and AJ Styles. Let's give a look.
Graphics: 6 TNA Impact! graphics is not very impressive, it looks like a PS3 downgraded version, so both models and cutscenes don't look that good. There are even some fps drops during the entrances, which it makes them quite horrible to look at. Sound: 7 Well, most of the soundtracks are just music from TNA's wrestlers entrances... so it's pretty good. The commentary during the match is pretty good as well, kinda repetitive but imho it's ok. Game noises are indeed pretty... noisy, and I like that. Gameplay: 6 TNA Impact is very user friendly, and I loved that: it's very easy to use your moves, and the lack of a stamina system makes this game really fast paced. Counterattack system is kinda tough because it requires a perfect timing but it's absolutely satisfying once you've learned it. However, there are just a few moves in this game, so you'll just see the same things over and over, match after match. Moreover, I don't know why, it looks like not every move can be countered, depending on the wrestler: so, basically, some wrestlers can be fully countered, others cannot. The story mode is very intriguing at the start, but it rapidly become just a looong sequence of identical matches without an actual connection: just go on the ring and fight. At least it's fully dubbed. There's no title belt match like the WWE games and there are just a few of different matches, no general manager mode as well. The PS2 version doesn't even have a custom mode: you can't create a superstar (even though the PS3 has this mode, so I really don't understand what happened about this). Overall: 6 Overall this game is not that good, but I'll be honest: if you watched and liked Total Nonstop Action back in those years, you'll probably want to give this game a shot. As I said, TNA Impact! is pretty easy to play with, so playing as AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Kurt Angle, Christian and many others on the hexagonal ring it's pretty satisfying, even though it's just for a short time. |
