While I find 'Teenage mutant ninja turtles II: The arcade game' to be a much more enjoyable game to play than this, its forerunner, I also persevered with this game once and now I thought I should write a review on it.
Graphics: 7 Good, but nothing more. The character sprites are very disappointing, especially Rocksteady and Bebop's, while some sprites are downright an eyesore. The backgrounds are good enough, but the second game did a much better job concerning the graphics. Sound: 8 Nice music that does the game justice. It fits the game, but it's not particularly outstanding. Again, game number two does a better job. Gameplay: 8 The interesting thing about this game is that you have four lives, one as each turtle. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses, and you can pick up additional weapons along the way. There are six missions you must undertake, from saving April O'Neill to saving Splinter to sneaking down into the Technodrome. All missions, apart from mission two, have boss encounters at the end. This game is very tough, and is more puzzle-involved than the second game. Mission three, where you strive to rescue Splinter, is especially challenging; not only must you figure out where to go, you have to be careful not to waste ammo to blow away barriers that allow you to move through the compound where Splinter is being held captive. And there are a lot of barriers. The game is interesting enough to keep you going, and should satisfy the needs of the more challenge-hungry gamers, especially if they're also TMNT fans. Overall: 8 A very good starting effort. It could capture the essence of TMNT better, but this is a solid, challenging game that will take effort to beat. I recommend you give this game a look if you're interested in trying a TMNT game. |

The first game in the Teengae Mutant Ninja Turtle series. Your goal is to make your way through various areas of Manhattan to defeat the evil Shredder and his cronies. Make your way through the sewers of Manhattan all the way to the Technodrome. You have various power up items to use throughout the way, from pizza to special weapons. This game has great gameplay, but it extremely challenging. I played this game for years as a kid and never defeated it without the Game Genie. It might be a good idea to grab some Game Genie codes just in case. |
